GUBBIO – Today, Friday 8th July, the 1st edition of the “Internazionali di tennis maschile Città di Gubbio”, a futures tournament with a prize money of 10000$ was presented with a press conference in which all the most important institutions such as the major of Gubbio Filippo Stirati, the councillor Gabriele Damiani, the tournament director Luca Ceccarelli, the representative of the Italian Tennis Federation Roberto Carraresi, the president of “MEF tennis events” Marcello Marchesini have participated.
The press conference was introduced by Andrea Migliarini, the manager of “MEF tennis events” who highlighted that Umbria is the region with Marche that organise more professional tournaments of tennis: “This project started 10 years ago with the Todi challenger and we are happy that also Perugia and Gubbio host two important tournaments of tennis.

Umbria is a privileged region because the tournaments take place in beautiful cities of art which have unique landscapes and player are fascinated to play here”. The president of “MEF tennis events” Marcello Marchesini said that he strongly believes in the connection between tennis and tourism and the results confirmed his idea and he keeps believing in this beautiful project because the sport tourism encourages the growth of Umbria.
The major and the councillor of Gubbio are sure that this event is a breakthrough for the city. In particular the major affirmed: “In our growth strategy, sport is an important part because it is a social, cultural and promotional fact. It is also an incentive for the tourism of the city. Organising these events is a challenge for us in the field of organization, competence and welcome.
This could be a strong element of growth in the public and private professionalism. We want to exalt our city in this particular moment of difficulty for the municipalities, moment that is less known by people and politics. The councillor want to point out that this tournament belongs to a tourism strategy focus on sport and the engagement of the institutions for this event”.

Roberto Carraresi, the representative of the Italian Tennis Federation in Umbria highlighted once again the importance of the tournament for Gubbio and for Umbria: “Umbria is one of the most important Italian region in the field of tennis because we organise three professional tournaments for adult tennis players, one important youth tennis tournament and other 120 activities during the year.
Since 2004 the number of tennis members have grown significantly: 12 years ago the members were 1400, while now we have 5200 members. Among them there are a lot of young promising tennis players. It is also important having the support of private sponsors and public institutions to organize these important events”.

At the end, the tournament director Luca Ceccarelli declared that the his only certainty was that everybody agreed the idea of this tournament: “The most important aspect is that we were able to create an organising committee which allows us to organise everything as well as possible.
