Michael Cappellini: “Lo scorso anno ho preso il Cero qui a Gubbio per la prima volta, quando l’ho toccato con la spalla pensavo a mio padre, quest’anno non sta bene e io sto facendo questa Festa per lui e per tutti i nostri amici ceraioli che non possono prendere il Cero“
GUBBIO (F.C.) – Per questa Festa dei Ceri 2018, come da tradizione, non poteva mancare la visita di una delegazione proveniente da Jessup, la città statunitense gemellata con Gubbio e che il prossimo 26 maggio festeggerà la consueta Festa dei Ceri.
A capo di questa delegazione, il Capodieci del Cero di Sant’Antonio della prossima Festa a Jessup Michael Cappellini, che Cronaca Eugubina ha intervistato per sapere come vivrà il prossimo 15 maggio e come sta vivendo l’attesa, visto che ormai è a Gubbio da alcuni giorni.
Perché sei qui a Gubbio?
“Sono qui per godermi la Festa con i miei amici perché sarò il Capodieci a Jessup“.
Immaginiamo che il fatto che tu sia il Capodieci del Cero di Sant’Antonio a Jessup è una delle ragioni principali per cui sei qui a Gubbio?
“Assolutamente, è decisamente un fatto che ha incoraggiato la mia visita, è qualcosa che ho atteso per tutta la mia vita“.
Come vivrai questo 15 maggio?
“Sono senza parole perché questa Festa ha qualcosa di assolutamente incredibile, io dico sempre che è un po’ strano per il sentimento che abbiamo quando veniamo a Gubbio, siamo tutti insieme una bella famiglia. E’ una cosa assolutamente incredibile, però per me questa festa è un qualcosa di più grande, in particolare quest’anno che alzerò il Cero di Sant’Antonio.
In America, grazie a Mauro Pierotti e agli Eugubini nel Mondo in tutte le loro componenti, abbiamo fatto una bella cosa, vogliamo rendere la Festa una festa madre come fate qui a Gubbio, questa è la cosa più importante per i ceraioli americani e su questo abbiamo fatto un bel lavoro, ma dobbiamo fare ancora tante cose.
Per me quest’anno è un’onore incredibile, lo scorso anno ho preso il Cero qui a Gubbio per la prima volta, quando l’ho toccato con la spalla pensavo a mio padre, quest’anno non sta bene e io sto facendo questa Festa per lui e per tutti i nostri amici ceraioli che non possono prendere il Cero“.
Alzata Festa dei Ceri
Lo scorso anno hai preso il Cero quest’anno parteciperai attivamente alla Festa, prenderai il Cero?
“Vediamo, perché l’anno scorso quando sono venuto a Gubbio, prima dell’Alzata mi hanno chiesto ‘Michele prendi il Cero‘, ho risposto ‘Certo, ma dove? Durante la mostra?’ e mi hanno detto ‘No, durante l’Alzata’. Mi fa assolutamente piacere, vediamo che succederà quest’anno, per me va bene tutto perché sono con i miei amici Santantoniari, noi siamo una famiglia e sono molto contento così“.
Sei già qui a Gubbio da diversi giorni, come li hai vissuti e come stai vivendo l’attesa?
“Noi aspettiamo questo giorno da 364 giorni, venerdì sera abbiamo fatto una bella festa con i santubaldari in Taverna, dopo siamo andati dai sangiorgiari e sabato sera faremo una bella festa con i santantoniari“.

Michael, why are you here in Gubbio?
“To do exactly what you said, to enjoy the Festa because I’m the Capodieci“.
I guess that the fact that you are Capodieci is one of the main reason because you are here in Gubbio
“Absolutely, I mean it’s definitely something that helps with my visit this year. It’s something that I’ve been looking for to my whole life“.
How will you live the 15th of May?
“I’m speechless, because this celebration is absolutely incredible, it’s a little bit strange for the feeling that we have when we are here, all together we are a beautiful family. It’s something incredible, but for me this celebration in something bigger, especially this year that I will be Capodieci.
In the United States, thanks to Mauro Pierotti and Eugubini nel Mondo, we made a beautiful thing, we want make this Festa our main celebration as it is here in Gubbio. This is the most important thing for the american ceraioli, we made a great job, but we have more other things to do.
Alzata Festa dei Ceri
For me this year it’s a huge honor, last year I brought the Cero for the first time here in Gubbio, when I touched the Cero with my shoulder I was thinking of my father, this year he is not well and I’m living this Festa for him and for all our friends who could not bring the Cero“.
Last year you brought the Cero, will you bring the Cero also this year?
“Let’s see, last year when I came in Gubbio, before the Alzata they asked me ‘Do you bring the Cero Michele?’, I answered ‘Of course, where? During the mostra?’ and they told me ‘No, during the Alzata’. It’s a big pleasure, let’s see what’s going to happen this year, for me everything is fine because I’m with my santantoniari friends, we are a family and I’m happy with that“.
You have been here for several days, how have you lived these days?
“We have been waiting this day for 364 days, last night we had a party with santubaldari in Taverna, then we went to sangiorgiari and this evening we will have a wonderful party with santantoniari“.
